UDPL 3-Gun matches usually consist of from 8 to 10 Courses Of Fire (COF) and offer the shooter the experience of using all of the defensive weapon types (rifle, pistol, shotgun) either separately, or in conjunction with each other (pistol/shotgun, pistol/rifle, etc.). COFs may include IDPA-type targets as well as steel plate targets. One of the rifle COFs usually includes steel silhouette targets out to 180 yards. An example round count from a recent shoot included: 150 Rifle, 40 birdshot, 120 pistol.
